From newspapers to online news and forums.

Printed or not, news is a very important part of a humans life. That's how we become aware about our surroundings and constantly advance our knowledge about our interests or even new findings. However throughout the years we have went through different ways of broadcasting the news. From papers to to now websites. I believe there are many good reasons for this change.

Newspapers were the first manifestation of daily journalism and appeared in the nineteenth century. As time advanced, technology has taken a toll on the popularity of printed news. First came the radio, which took advantage of portability and the fact that paper had a finite amount of space. However radio could not provide flashy headlines or images to intrigue or provide evidence to the reader. This is where television news came in and soon after the internet, which completely overhauled the news area.

One of the major limitations and a clear disadvantage of newspapers was that they had to follow government or its own institutions rules, which themselves were imposed by the government itself. This became an issue when some journalists were being used as weapons of clear political intent. However in the internet anonymity is possible and widely used. This allows the reader to decide which sources to trust as the facts can vary. In addition with the online news, came forums. They allow users to discuss and gain new information while being anonymous. Forums allowed people to spread quickly updating news and share other topics faster that people could read. Even simple news websites have a comment section and the ability to share the article and even rate the ideas and quality of presentation.

Moreover, by itself the fact that one can search up an older article from yesterday or even all the way to the beginning of internet puts the online editions over printed ones by a mile. Also information can be retained with ease, for example just bookmarking the article or just taking a screenshot of a valuable paragraph.

Another major advantage of having the news online is that the production of paper takes a big toll on trees and air. These days we cant waste much with the news being with us all the time on the phone/computer. Following the idea of portability, having the ability to present the evidence of a point you are arguing in a matter of seconds, from a trustworthy source is immense. This highlights the accessibility and convenience which technology has brought to us.

Perhaps the newspaper will remain the object of rare vintage fashion, something like a cigar. However online presentation of news will remain popular as long as people keep being interested in advancing their knowledge.
